Andrew Pennock
Canine Handler
Andrew Pennock has been a member of MNK9SS since 2023, bringing his experience from both emergency management and the fire service to his role in canine search and rescue. His background offers a strong foundation in incident response, coordination, and adaptability, qualities that support his work with canine partners.

Andrew’s current working dog, K9 Coby, has achieved his Type II, FSA certification and is actively training toward his Type I, CE certification. Coby carries a meaningful name, honoring one of the Labrador Retrievers, Coby, who assisted in search efforts at the World Trade Center following the September 11 attacks. This canine hero worked tirelessly through long shifts over 11 days, locating the human remains of dozens of individuals buried in the rubble. Coby was generously donated to MNK9SS by Paula and John McCusker, whose support has made his training and future service possible.

Coby has an enthusiastic temperament, high energy, and a natural confidence that makes him eager to take on new challenges. He thrives in training, approaching problems with determination and persistence. These traits, paired with his strong drive for scent work, mark him as a promising future HR canine.

Together, Andrew and Coby are building the capability and depth of MNK9SS’s HR search teams, ensuring readiness for the demanding missions that lie ahead. Their partnership reflects both Andrew’s professional expertise and Coby’s developing talent, a combination that strengthens the team’s ability to respond whenever called upon.
