Jena Hannon has been involved with MNK9SS since 2021. She first volunteered with the team for a year before taking on a canine partner of her own, gaining experience and insight into the demands of search and rescue work. She is now the handler of K9 Maverick, a Golden Retriever donated by Fire Kissed Goldens.

Maverick achieved his CST-CE, Type I certification in LF, through FEMA/SUSAR, showing strong intelligence, drive, and ability to problem-solve in the field. He is known for his love of tug and his playful, enthusiastic personality, which shines through in both work and downtime. Maverick excels at working in rubble environments, using his keen nose and persistence to locate live scent even in challenging conditions. His energy and eagerness to learn make him a reliable partner during training and deployments.

Together, Jena and Maverick represent the important role of canine-handler partnerships within MNK9SS, bringing skill and focus to the team’s mission.

 

Jena also serves as the Vice President of MNK9SS, helping guide the direction and leadership of the organization.
